Mark R. Hammer, C.P.A., P.F.S., President

Mark received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting, Magna Cum Laude, from the University of Detroit in 1978.  He joined Doeren Mayhew, a large CPA firm in Troy, MI as an intern in 1976 while working his way through college and remained with the firm upon graduation in 1978.  He obtained excellent training while working there prior to moving to Florida.  Mark moved to Florida in February 1982 and has practiced public accounting in Pinellas County since then. He was licensed as a CPA in 1980 and obtained his Personal Financial Specialist (PFS) designation in 2000.

Mark is a member of the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants.  He is also a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants with additional memberships in the tax and personal finance planning sections. He is a licensed Certified Public Accountant in the State of Florida.  Alumni member of Beta Alpha Psi an honorary accounting fraternity for students which maintained high scholastic achievement.

Mark is particularly effective in helping clients assemble loan packages and assist in the negotiation of loans with banks for lines of credit, finance or refinance of building and or equipment loans.  He also assists clients in negotiating terms for the purchase or lease of vehicles.

Mark and his wife Joyce live in Seminole with their dogs Brinkley and Phoebe.  Mark is the Secretary-Treasurer for Tara of Pinellas Homeowners Association.   They both share a life long love for old cars and have a fully restored 1970 Buick GS 455 Stage 1 muscle car and a 2003 50th anniversary Corvette that they enjoy driving and showing at car shows and events.  They have 2 grown children and 5 grandchildren.

Maria Jaecklein, Senior Staff Accountant

Maria earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Management Science with concentrations in Accounting and History from Case Western Reserve University in 1983.  While at CWRU, Maria received the Wall Street Journal Student Achievement Award.  After graduation, she passed the CPA exam in 1984 and became licensed in Pennsylvania in 1985.  Maria started her career on the audit staff of Deloitte, Haskins & Sells before moving on to a regional CPA firm in State College, PA.  After moving to Pittsburgh with her family in 1989 she worked as a Medicare Auditor for Blue Cross of Western PA for several years before putting her CPA license on hold and taking time off to raise her family.  For the last ten years, prior to joining Hammer & Company, she worked as a consultant for several small business clients and acted as Business Manager for a large Roman Catholic Church in Northeast Ohio.

Joyce A. Hammer, Office Manager

Joyce is Mark’s wife and is our office manager.  She began working  in accounting in 1978  in her home town of Pittsburgh, PA.  After moving to Florida in 1983, Joyce worked for the American Lung Association and Jack Eckerd Corporation in the financial planning and analysis department before joining a local CPA firm.  She has been with Hammer and Company since it was founded in 1994 and was responsible for the development of the administrative structure of the firm.

Joyce handles all the bookkeeping for Hammer & Company, our time and billing and client tracking systems as well as preparing monthly bookkeeping, payroll accounting, payroll tax returns and sales tax returns.  She assembles all tax returns and is the final quality check before Mark sign’s off on the work to be released to the clients or remitted to tax agencies.  Joyce is also a licensed Notary Public.

Amanda Laperierre, Staff Accountant

Amanda joined Hammer & Company in 2017.  She earned her degree in Accounting from the University of Central Florida in 1996.  Amanda has extensive accounting experience, prepares business and personal tax returns, and performs QuickBooks™ software training and consulting.   She and her husband have 3 children and enjoy outdoor activities, camping and traveling.

Kathy Foltz, Administrative Assistant

Kathy began working at Hammer & Company in 2016 to assist the staff in the administrative areas of the firm.   She is responsible for organizing incoming work and routing for preparation, assembling business and personal tax returns at their completion in addition to many other administrative functions in the firm.  Kathy and her family are very active in their church St. Stefano’s in St. Petersburg.  She and her husband and daughter like traveling, camping and enjoy the many attractions that sunny Florida has to offer.
